The Who, What, When, Where and How
When reevaluating my introduction video, I reflected on the insights in Chapter 6 of Crafting Digital Writing. The chapter underscored the importance of understanding and establishing a clear focus, knowing and understanding your audience, and providing reliable and engaging content. The emphasis on reliability is not just about creating engaging content, but about instilling a sense of security and confidence in your readers. High-quality writing, supported by relevant images, videos, or infographics, keeps readers interested and enhances their experience.By revisiting my videos and blogs, I could identify areas that needed improvement. I aimed to create a more dynamic, visually appealing video that better connected to my blog topic. Along with the added intro with graphics, transitions, and music, I adjusted the camera and tried to improve my delivery.
As discussed in Chapter 6, it's crucial for digital content writers to be mindful of the content they create. Being a responsible author is fundamental, whether the content is written, spoken, or presented through images and videos.
First, you must determine your purpose: what are you trying to achieve with your message? According to Lawrence (2022), you should establish "the purpose of [the] project, message, or campaign" (p. 6). Additionally, consider whether the medium you choose for your message is appropriate. Is it the right format?
Originality is also an important factor. Are your ideas original, or are you simply restating what others have already expressed? Are you reposting someone else's thoughts, building upon them, or sharing your unique perspective? Being transparent about this helps your audience understand your intentions and can foster trust.
Next, what is your central focus? What is the main argument you want to communicate? You should also consider how your assertion might impact both your primary audience and any unintended audiences.
Additionally, it is essential to evaluate the evidence you have to support your claims. Consider referencing other sources. While we all seek data that supports our premise, it’s also wise to explore different viewpoints. This can help ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the facts. "Has the opposing view been explored so as to strengthen the writer’s own argument? This consideration is particularly key in the development of a fully supported and wisely composed persuasive or argumentative essay" (Long, Minervini, & Gladd, 2020).
Incorporating visual elements can significantly reinforce your points when presenting an argument. However, ensure that these visuals are well-designed and relevant. This not only makes your content more engaging but also keeps your audience interested and invested in your message.
Lastly, what is your call to action? What change or outcome would you like to see as a result of sharing this information?

The first thing all teachers should do, for any lesson, is determine the purpose. I think sometimes if we aren't clear with our purpose for the activity, then the students are also confused on what is expected. It's beneficial to use videos in the classroom as well as long as we are amplifying the learning (Alber, 2019). Farrah and Barnett (2019) state "The most important element of a strong video if authenticity". I think that utilizing video in the classroom to help strengthen instruction and keep students engaged is becoming a crucial component of teaching.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching your video. You made several changes that are very noticeable. One of the keys to getting to trust your video for learning purposes is to establish credibility and I think that from the beginning your techniques establish that you have an understanding of video editing. Video is very useful in education because it solidifies learning and it allows one to visualize the events. Your video goes along way of establishing credibility and is very effective.

I really liked how you focused on the visuals in your video. I agree that being original and transparent is important—crediting others while sharing your ideas builds trust. Making sure your format matches your message shows a good understanding of effective communication. Which change do you think made the biggest impact on connecting with your audience?
